The first World Compassionate Communities Day was proclaimed by Mayor Jim Watson at Ottawa City Hall on Monday, November 1, 2021. This day, to recognize the contribution of compassionate communities around the world, was organized by Public Health Palliative Care International. This organization is dedicated to promoting this vital work worldwide. Ottawa’s event was coordinated by the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association. Compassionate Ottawa was represented by founders Jim Nininger and former mayor Jacquelin Holzman.
