This live virtual event will feature a conversation between Andr\u00e9 Picard, one of Canada\u2019s top health & public policy observers and commentators, and Louise Hanvey, Compassionate Ottawa Board Member. Together, they will discuss Andr\u00e9\u2019s journey and approach to journalism; his thoughts on the community\u2019s role in palliative care, caregiving, and home care; his suggestions for how public policies should be reshaped to better support Canadians; and more. There will be time for questions and comments following the discussion.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Andr\u00e9 Picard<\/strong> is a health reporter and columnist for The Globe and Mail, where he has been a staff writer since 1987. He is also the author of five bestselling books, including his most recent, entitled, \u201cNeglected No More.<\/a>\u201d Andr\u00e9 is an eight-time nominee for the National Newspaper Awards, Canada\u2019s top journalism prize, and past winner of prestigious Michener Award for Meritorious Public Service Journalism. He was named Canada\u2019s first \u201cPublic Health Hero\u201d by the Canadian Public Health Association, as a \u201cChampion of Mental Health\u201d by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health, and received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his dedication to improving healthcare.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Louise Hanvey<\/strong>, RN, BN, MHA, has worked with many national palliative care initiatives. She was the Project Director for the Advance Care Planning in Canada Project with the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association. As part of her responsibilities, she launched the campaign \u201cSpeak Up: Start the conversation about end-of-life care.\u201d As well, Louise is a Board member of Compassionate Ottawa.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The first 500 registrants will be able to join the session via Zoom; others will be redirected to the live-stream on YouTube via the\u00a0Compassionate Ottawa channel<\/a>.
