DESCRIPTION:In support of the work of the HELP Ottawa Project through Orleans United Church (OUC)\, OUC members are invited to join a two-part workshop series on the topic of grief and bereavement. In the first session\, they will be guided through an interactive session by trained facilitators to increase their knowledge and comfort on the topic of grief and loss. SUMMARY:Conversations with Leaders – A Conversation with André Picard
DESCRIPTION:This live virtual event will feature a conversation between André Picard\, one of Canada’s top health & public policy observers and commentators\, and Louise Hanvey\, Compassionate Ottawa Board Member. Together\, they will discuss André’s journey and approach to journalism; his thoughts on the community’s role in palliative care\, caregiving\, and home care; his suggestions for how public policies should be reshaped to better support Canadians; and more. There will be time for questions and comments following the discussion. \nRegister hereAndré Picard is a health reporter and columnist for The Globe and Mail\, where he has been a staff writer since 1987. He is also the author of five bestselling books\, including his most recent\, entitled\, “Neglected No More.” André is an eight-time nominee for the National Newspaper Awards\, Canada’s top journalism prize\, and past winner of prestigious Michener Award for Meritorious Public Service Journalism. He was named Canada’s first “Public Health Hero” by the Canadian Public Health Association\, as a “Champion of Mental Health” by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health\, and received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his dedication to improving healthcare. \nLouise Hanvey\, RN\, BN\, MHA\, has worked with many national palliative care initiatives. She was the Project Director for the Advance Care Planning in Canada Project with the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association. As part of her responsibilities\, she launched the campaign “Speak Up: Start the conversation about end-of-life care.” As well\, Louise is a Board member of Compassionate Ottawa. \nThe first 500 registrants will be able to join the session via Zoom; others will be redirected to the live-stream on YouTube via the Compassionate Ottawa channel. A recording of the webinar will be posted on the Compassionate Ottawa YouTube channel after the session airs.
