Health, Social Services and the Community Working Together: Better Outcomes for All
January 21 @ 10:00 am - 11:15 am
This live virtual event will feature a conversation between Dr. Julian Abel, physician and Director of Compassionate Communities UK, and Dr. Nick Busing, retired family physician and Compassionate Ottawa Board member. Together they will explore a model of care that demonstrates the essential role of the community in improving the health of its residents in partnership with health care providers. The conversation will describe how working together helps build compassionate communities, and will also include findings from studies that highlight the benefits of compassionate communities. There will be time for questions and comments following the discussion.
Dr. Julian Abel is a physician and international lead in the field of compassionate communities and palliative care. He is the Director of Compassionate Communities UK, which is a charity that was formed to develop the broader roll out of compassionate communities in both primary care and end of life care. For the past 3 years, Julian has been working with Frome Medical Practice in Somerset, and advising many other communities around the world about developing a new model of primary care combined with compassionate communities.
Dr. Nick Busing is a Professor Emeritus in Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa and a board member of Compassionate Ottawa. He is the former President and CEO of AFMC and is currently Chair of the Board of Associated Medical Services (AMS). As a family doctor he spent his career in a full scope of practice caring for patients and families from birth to death, while also serving in many academic and administrative roles.
The first 100 registrants will be able to join the session via Zoom; others will be redirected to the live-stream on YouTube via the Compassionate Ottawa channel. A recording of the webinar will be posted on the Compassionate Ottawa YouTube channel after the session airs.
